+65Meds
aids healthcare professionals to assess the appropriateness of the medications used in patients above 65 years old. The recommendations are based on the second version of STOPP/START criteria published in 2014*.
Screening Tool of Older Persons™ potentially inappropriate Prescription (STOPP), and Screening Tool to Alert doctors to Right Treatment (START) criteria are evidence-based recommendations that were developed in 2008 and updated in 2014. These criteria comprise 80 STOPP criteria and 34 START criteria. STOPP criteria identify potentially inappropriate medications that should be avoided in elderly patients. Whereas, the 34 START criteria address the common potentially prescribing omission of a medication that is recommended to be used where there is a justified indication and no contraindication.
